Ready to Adopt?

Adding a new family member to your home is a long term commitment and should not be taken lightly. Read over our readiness for adoption assessment. Asking yourself and family these important questions will help you make a decision on your preparedness to accept a new pet into your home.

Adoption Readiness Assessment:

  1. Financially, are you able to provide your pet with routine medical services and/or any emergency care?

  2. Acclimating a new pet to your home and other pets can take considerable time and effort in some cases, do you have the patience and time to contribute to this process?

  3. Pets can be messy, they shed, have litter boxes, etc. Are you prepared for some extra clean up?

  4. Emotional health is important to a pet, can you make time for playing, petting and nurturing an animal?

  5. Kittens and puppies need to keep safe and can get themselves into trouble easily. Are you prepared to “baby-proof” your home?

  6. Work long hours and frequent travel can affect a pet negatively. Please consider this.

  7. Are you open to working with your pet if a behavioral problem arises at any point in their life?

  8. Are you approaching any major life changes or living situations in the near future? If so, it is a good idea to wait until you have settled into your new situation.

  9. Have all family members agreed on adding a new pet to your home?

  10. Do you have a back up plan for your pet in the event that you go on vacation or if for any reason you are unable to no longer care for your pet?
